How to Get Cat Urine Smell & Stains Out of Carpets?
What is Cat Urine Smell
Cat urine smell has a strong and distinct odor that is difficult to describe. It is usually described as pungent, musky, or ammonia-like, with a slightly sweet or sour smell. The odor is caused by the presence of uric acid, which is a byproduct of the metabolism of cats. When uric acid breaks down, it releases an odor that can be quite strong and unpleasant. The odor can be even more potent if the urine is left to sit for a period of time, as bacteria can grow and break down the urea into ammonia, which amplifies the smell. It’s important to note that the smell of cat urine can be difficult to remove once it has soaked into porous surfaces, such as carpet, fabric, or wood.
Cat pee is one of those smells that can be easily identified — you will know if there is cat pee in your house. Most feline friends prefer to use their litter boxes. Sometimes, however, an accident can occur.
Carpet stains caused by cat urine can be very difficult to clean up. We will show you how to clean your carpet of cat urine and get rid of the unpleasant smells. Let’s get started.

Although you may feel compelled to use a carpet steamer for the job, cleaning up cat urine is not something that a steamer can do. These machines can heat and steam the cat urine to bond it to the carpet fibers. In case of an emergency, make sure to have the following supplies available.
* Baking soda
*Vinegar
*Hydrogen peroxide
*Dishcloths
*Dish soap
*Enzymatic cleaner
*Use paper towels
*Water
*Carpet shampooer
Steam Cleaner vs Shampooer
The carpet shampooer, unlike the steam cleaner uses cold water and soap to clean carpets and then suckers out any remaining dirt. Instead of using steam, it scrubs the fibers clean. Enzymatic cleaners are products that contain enzymes to remove stains and odors from urine. Spray bottles are often available for these cleaners. This is the easiest way to clean up cat urine on carpet.
First, use paper towels to remove as much of the stain from your hands as possible. Spray the cleaner on the stain and cover it with paper towels. Follow the instructions on the bottle. However, most cleaners require that they be left to work for at least 10-15 minutes before being effective.
Next, wipe the cleaner off with a clean cloth. When necessary, change to a dry towel and continue blotting the stain until it is gone.
If you notice any odor or stain after drying the area, you may need to repeat these steps.

Vinegar & Baking Soda
Begin by adding 1.5 cups of warm water to 1/2 cup of white vinegar. This solution can be left in a bowl, or added to a spray-bottle.
Use a clean cloth to remove as much as possible from the carpet.
Spray or pour the vinegar mixture on the stain. Allow it to sit for five minutes. The vinegar will kill bacteria and neutralize odors. Although your carpet might smell like vinegar, it will soon fade.
Blot the vinegar mixture, then cover the area with baking soda. Allow it to sit overnight to absorb any remaining cat urine smell.
Your carpet will be spotless if you vacuum the baking soda out in the morning.
Hydrogen Peroxide, Dish Soap, and Baking Soda
Use a clean cloth to remove as much urine as possible from your carpet.
Bake soda can be used to cover the stain. Mix 3/4 cup of 3% Hydrogen Peroxide with 1 teaspoon dish detergent while it’s still sitting. Dish soap should not contain bleach.
Use a towel to gently push the solution into the carpet. Don’t scrub! Don’t scrub! Scrubbing can push urine out to a larger area, creating more stain. Let the solution dry overnight. Blot any excess liquid. Take out any baking soda that remains.

Clean again
If the smell persists, you can either repeat the cleaning or use a different method. Make sure that no trace of the urine odor remains. This could indicate to your cat that it is okay to go back there.
A carpet shampooer is a good option if all else fails. If you don’t have one, you can rent one. Many carpet shampoos include options to remove pet odors. These shampoos are often made with ingredients that fight urine stains. Do not use a steamer!
